Marianne North was a famous traveling biologist and artist of the nineteenth century. Born in England she traveled around the world to paint strange and exotic plants that she encountered. She is one of the most famous botanical artists and is most well known for her naturalistic paintings that often feature beautiful landscapes. North produced over eight-hundred paintings traveling seventeen countries on six continents. At least four of the plants that she painting were newly discovered and named after her.
