Description
The Soft Caress Mahonia, from the Southern Living Plant Collection, is a problem solver for anyone looking to fill out his or her part shade to full shade gardens. This Mahonia features feathery evergreen foliage that ranges from soft green to dark green. Each individual leaf is long and slender with lightly serrated edges. Additionally, it produces sprays of bright yellow blooms in early winter. This is a naturally dwarf variety that only grows 3 Ft. H x 3.5 Ft. W with a notably compact growth habit. However, feel free to trim in late winter to keep it at the desired size. Use it as an accent, in a container, or in a low-maintenance mass planting. Plant in moist soil with good drainage for best results. Water 2-3 times per week for the first growing season. This variety is hardy from USDA Zones 7 – 9.
-
Soft, threadlike foliage with no thorns; Blooms in winter followed by blue berries
-
Perfect for an Asian garden or as a specimen
-

Fertilizing: use a well-draining garden soil mixed with your native soil to backfill the hole; to maximize growth, apply a slow-released slightly acidic fertilizer each Spring
